This was last month when I came home one day from work and found Hendrik writing again. Lola said that Hendrik and her had been communicating through writing. She would ask Hendrik by writing it down on a piece of paper, and Hendrik would also pen his answer. It was not something new to me because Hendrik and I had been sending sms/texts and 'Whatsapp' messages whenever he had the opportunity using Lola or Daddy's mobile phone. So, this was a snapshot of our penned conversation.
I remember Hendrik's first writings were of numbers and that his favorite to write was the number 72. The number was significant because 72 was the number of one of his favorite piano pieces, "Chopsticks", in his keyboard. He would write the number over and over again and would always be delighted to see them on a piece of paper, on my Samsung's S-Memo, and even on the white board. Then, he discovered LED numbers through our CD player, taxi fare meters, and other signages. Thus, he started to write numbers LED-style.
It is also noticeable that when Hendrik is in his writing mood, he would say the day and date, in a way like imitating someone, and write it down. Probably because his teacher, Mrs Lim, would also write down the day and date everyday during their class. I must say that it is a very good and effective way to teach kids about day and date as Hendrik is definitely catching and applying it. The photo below does not really show a complete day and date (as there is no month indicated); I must have thrown those papers with those writings.
Hendrik is very observant with his surroundings. Can you identify from the photo below which number to dial when you want to call for a Comfort taxi? The other set of numbers is for SMRT taxi - though one number is wrong, but then again he is only 4 years old. I didn't know these numbers until I googled them. My son has a photographic memory!
As you can see below, other than the usual words and numbers that he has written, there are 2 plate numbers. One thing for sure is that they are Singapore plate numbers. As to how and where Hendrik got them, I really don't have even an iota of idea. I cannot even remember my brothers' car plate numbers!
This is the latest craze in his writing adventures. Not only that Hendrik can count and write numbers, he has also raised the notch to writing up to a trillion. Yes, you read it correctly. He can write up to trillion digits.
Oh, I am just a proud mommy... <3
