Waiting for Travis and Dizzy

Late last month up to earlier this month, Hendrik had been telling his Daddy to buy him Travis and Dizzy, characters in a kid show, Bob the Builder. Every time Joseph was out and could pass by a mall, he would always look for them, but seemed to be unsuccessful almost all the time. He would then decide to buy something that also interests Hendrik – miniature shovel trucks, garbage trucks, and racing cars.

Every time he comes home, Hendrik would be delighted to see them, but would always mention that his Daddy forgot to buy Travis and Dizzy. The boy never forgets. He knows what he wants, and wouldn’t stop until he finally gets it. He is not the cry-baby type though who whines if he doesn’t get what he asks for. He would still be excited and grateful for the “substitute”, but would then remind that you still owe him one…  =)

Days before the Holy Week break earlier this month, both Joseph and I were in Bugis area for dinner with some friends. We remembered that it was from Bugis Junction Mall where we bought Hendrik’s other Bob the Builder toys. Bugis is quite far from our place, and we normally don’t go there unless there is a need – meeting friends, attending seminars, etc.

Voila! The whole gang of Bob the Builder was there hanging on the racks accumulating dust. Travis and Dizzy were there as well, waiting to be picked up by us and be brought home to their rightful and cute little new owner - Hendrik that is.

We arrived late that night and Hendrik was already sleeping. We decided that we give him his much awaited Travis and Dizzy the next day after school. When I arrived home from work that day, Hendrik had just woken up from his afternoon nap. I told him that I had a surprise for him. When he opened his eyes, I saw the big grin on his face - the kind of expression I was expecting.  =D

He was so excited to take them out of the boxes and play with them. I was also elated seeing him very much delighted with his much awaited toys. Oh well, kids will be kids...

On another note, I must say that Bob the Builder toys are not that cheap, but the look on Hendrik’s face, it's priceless!

Daddy's Birthday

We celebrated Daddy’s birthday 2 Sundays ago, 15 April. Since it was a Sunday, we attended church in the morning and then had dinner outside.

Originally, Daddy wanted to celebrate his birthday by having a staycation at MBS Hotel. Mommy was way too so slow to book for a hotel room until there was no longer room available on the particular date Daddy had chosen. Too bad… We could have experienced Singapore’s iconic and most luxurious hotel. Hendrik could have jumped and tested the bed’s sturdiness at his heart’s content. We could have savored the yummy buffet breakfast - which is by the way our favorite part in staying in a hotel. We could have relaxed and sun bathed or moon bathed in the rooftop’s infinity pool. =) And, Daddy could have been frantically spending a great deal of time breathlessly capturing the stunning views of the Singapore skyline - it sure would have been a precious experience for him. If only Mommy was just fast... Even at the last minute, Mommy and Daddy asked their friends who work at the hotel if they can squeeze us in, but unfortunately the hotel was already fully booked. How can a very expensive hotel be fully booked?!? - sigh -

Going back to reality... After church that day we invited one of Mommy’s best friends, Tita Claire, to join us for dinner. We went to Seoul Garden and had a buffet dinner, steamboat / shabu-shabu style. Borrowing Tita Claire’s words, “we enjoyed a sumptuous variety of chicken, beef, seafood, and tasty fish and prawn balls”.

Water Play Is Fun =)

We spent Good Friday (06 April) at the newly opened Changi City Point, a mall just opposite the Expo MRT station. Joseph was the one who knew about and recommended this place to us as he took some photos of it as one of his photography projects with his client. He was telling me that we should bring Hendrik to the Water Play Area of the mall as the facilities are still new. And so we went...

At first, he was quite hesitant to get wet. Daddy needed to do some coaching and encouragement to get him to the water.
In fact, he was trying to avoid the water...

But, knowing Hendrik we knew that he just needed some time to warm up and familiarize himself with the new setting. In here, he was contented with just maneuvering with the fireman-like hose...

After some time, he slowly puts his guard down.... relax...

... and gets the hang of it!

Now, this screams the start of fun!

Yes, he sure looks like he was finally enjoying every bit of it...

After an hour of water play, we finally managed to get him out of the water after a number of failed attempts of telling him that we needed to go home.

By the time he finished changing his clothes and we were on our way out of the Water Play Area, he was already telling me that we will come back again.

I Want To Be A King!

This morning while having breakfast, I asked Hendrik for the first time what he wants to become when he grows up:

Mommy: Hendrik, what do you want to become when you grow up? Do you want to be a doctor? Or a painter? Or a pianist? What do you want to become?
Hendrik: (without hesitation) I want to become a King!

Joseph and I looked at each other. We were speechless and dumbfounded. Where did he learn about the idea of a king, we wonder. Then Hendrik continued:

Hendrik: I am a little boy so I am still a prince, but when I grow up I will be King.

Well, I think we need to aim for the highest right?  =)

Happy Easter!
